Drax bioenergy event

We were happy to attend the ‘New opportunities from bioenergy’ event at Drax this month, to showcase the opportunity miscanthus offers to growers wanting to diversify.

Experts, including Daniel Davidson, biomass buyer at Drax, presented on market opportunities in bioenergy, and the significant part biomass plays in the industry. The day was rounded off by a two and a half hour tour of the biomass facilities at Drax.

“A mix of growers, landowners and consultants joined us on the day. We shared miscanthus samples and fielded questions from visitors about potential returns available, and how our supply chain operates,” says William Cracroft-Eley.

Miscanthus makes up a large proportion of the circa 150,000 tonnes of ‘agri-crop’ supplied into Drax, which also includes wheat straw, and a small proportion of other materials such as oat husks, and peanut hulls.

The event was a great opportunity to meet industry professionals and discuss the new business we can bring to growers in the sector. If you missed it, and want to find out about emerging markets for miscanthus, we’re running an open day in October, co-hosted by Drax and the NFU, highlighting new opportunities for growers,” adds William.

Don’t miss Terravesta’s Drax open day, run in partnership with Drax and the NFU.

You’ll have a chance to see miscanthus plantings, from first year crop to mature crop, and visit the established seed trial sites we’re running, followed by a power station tour.

There will be a number of talks on emerging opportunities for miscanthus growers, and a chance to speak to the experts and other farmers over a light lunch.
