Snetterton Renewable Energy Plant officially opened on 14th September and our chairman, William Cracroft-Eley and our operations manager, Alex Robinson, represented Terravesta at the event.

“It was an honour to be invited to the inauguration as a leading supplier, having just signed a 15-year contract for the supply of Miscanthus bales to the power station. The site is very clean and impressive with a skilled team managing it, and they were running at full capacity while we were there,” said Alex Robinson.

The renewable energy plant generates 44MWh of electricity every hour, which is enough to supply 82,000 homes and save over 300,000 tons of CO2 every year.

The plant was officially opened by Cllr. Kate Millbank, Chairman of Breckland Council in the presence of local, national and European dignitaries.

It is owned by BWSC East Anglia Ltd (BEAL) a joint venture between Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and PensionDanmark. It was constructed under a design and build contract by BWSC who have further responsibility for the operation and maintenance under a 15-year agreement which commenced earlier this year.

Christina Grumstrup Sorensen, Senior Partner of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, said: “We are delighted to have formally opened our power plant and celebrated with our Danish partners and investors, together with many of the authorities and organisations that have been working with us locally to bring our project to fruition.”

Christian Grundtvig, Director Generation Services and Project Development with Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor, said: “We have worked very closely with Breckland Council and many other statutory agencies and it is a credit to the joint effort that has been put in by all parties that the project has been delivered ahead of time and within budget. I would also like to thank all local Snetterton residents for their support during the construction phase and we look forward to continuing to work with them through the operational phase. Chairman of Breckland Council, Cllr.”

Kate Millbank said “I’m delighted that the construction of the new biomass plant is now officially complete. This important project has provided a real boost to the local economy and created a number of jobs, which is excellent news for local people, while providing a significant amount of green power for the region.”
