Sam has always had an interest in farming, in the environment and in renewable energy in particular, that’s why this position struck a chord with him.

An outdoors person, Sam grew up on an arable farm in Northamptonshire, and he has a degree in Geography – so field-based work is something he’s looking forward to.

“I’ll be working closely with Michal Mos in co-ordinating the practical side of large-scale field trials. The hands-on outdoor work appeals to me and I’ll get to use the skills from my degree to help the bigger picture,” he says

Sam will need to ensure delivery of all field activities including planting, phenotyping and harvesting with the highest level of skill, motivation and understanding of priorities, while developing the capabilities required for future requirements.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Michal on trialling the existing crops, but also new miscanthus genotypes, and other types of analysis like looking at the variety of environmental interactions between different sites.

“A lot of the role will involve analysing the crop and environmental factors influencing its development, which is really interesting to me, having studied geography. I’m looking forward to learning more about miscanthus, and to get out and work with the crop, taking samples, analysing them, capturing the data and looking at patterns,” he adds.

We’re very pleased to have Sam on board. His findings will impact the future development of the crop. Welcome to the team Sam!
