The Year for Miscanthus

2012 was a positive year for Miscanthus, but 2013 is already proving to be even stronger! The year got off to a sterling start following the announcement of our highest contract price ever last month. What’s more, to help growers ensure premium quality crop and best-ever profits to match, we’ve also launched The Essential Growers’ Guide brand new for 2013!

2013-2014 contracts are now £70/tonne for those committing to five- to ten-year contracts ??? and they’re RPIX-linked to offer growers long-term security. This serves as confirmation that Miscanthus prices have hit an all-time high, and the commercial opportunity is only set to keep on growing.

What’s more, government support for renewable energy continues to raise the profile of sustainable fuel sources like biomass. With ever-increasing demand from end-users pushing Miscanthus to the forefront of the energy crop market, farmers signing contacts in 2013 will be reaping the rewards long into the future.

At Terravesta, our growers are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re committed to helping you get the most out of Miscanthus at every stage of the process from starting out right through to sale to end-users. As the ultimate handbook to all things Miscanthus, our Essential Growers’ Guide is designed to be a day-to-day reference and will help you make the most of the wonder crop.

For those thinking about growing Miscanthus, we urge you to consider applying to Natural England’s Energy Crops Scheme. The scheme offers grants to cover 50% of establishment costs, but applications close on 30th September 2013 so act fast! Applications made before this date can be used for phased planting in 2014, 2015 and 2016. For all grant application enquiries please email Rob Meadley at Brown and Co., or call 01652 654833.

Now really is the time for both new and existing growers to maximise the Miscanthus opportunity. To discuss your plans for the coming year or to find out more about Miscanthus, contact us today.
